We are the Manitoba Operating Room Nurses Association, a member of the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC). We provide a voice for perioperative registered nurses across the province of Manitoba. Our not for profit association has a volunteer board of directors representing every region in Manitoba. MORNA works to promote excellence by demonstrating leadership in patient safety, and by enabling best practice, career advancement and professional development for perioperative nurses.

President's Message

September 2026

Greetings MORNA members,

I am so excited to step into the role as MORNA President for the 2026-2028 term. MORNA has been led by many passionate, inspiring leaders and I will strive to lead as they have in the past. The 2026-2027 MORNA executive is a great group of perioperative nurses from various sites in our province, and I am so thrilled to work with them this year!

At our 2026 conference, MORNA was excited to reveal our new logo which showcases our beautiful Manitoba crocus. In recent years, we have seen ORNAC and other provincial chapters rebrand their logos and we are excited to update ours as well.

One of my goals as MORNA President is to network with our Manitoba Nurses Union to ensure that perioperative nurses are given a strong voice. This includes working with MNU on creating safe nurse patient ratios that will recruit and retain perioperative nurses, promote safe patient care, and reduce burnout within our current nurses. We are a unique nursing speciality, and it is important that we speak up to ensure our voices are heard.

And lastly, I strive to network more with you, our MORNA members. I look forward to MORNA’s annual wine & cheese event that kicks off the start of each year. As a Brandon nurse, I enjoy coming into Winipeg where I can network in person with our MORNA members. Our monthly webinars provide perioperative education and networking opportunities for all as we do a round table from all our sites across Manitoba. And of course the ORNAC Conference in Halifax is guaranteed to be an epic time where perioperative nurses can interact from coast to coast.

Thank you to every one of you for everything you do as a perioperative nurse. Perioperative nurses work in fast-paced stressful environments, multi-task equipment and sterile supplies, promote evidenced based practices, and advocate for safe surgical patient care every day. We are a valuable part of the operating room team.
